I have a strange document for you. I have a Recognizance Roll.

This document was dated 1638/9 and is a petition from a Brian Lion that he cannot marry Jane daughter of Roger Grimshaw.

As it is such an old document it is therefore very hard to read, both the document and also the writting and language used in it.

I have as yet not been able to fully transcribe this document but it suggests that perhaps Brian Lion was engaged to Jane Grimshaw and that perhaps she was not of pure nature and good conduct. That Brian is prepared to continue with the engagement but also would like out of it.

What happened???? Well so far I have not been able to find a marriage between the two. Having said that I have not been able to find any record of these two people after this time.
